Doctor of Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD.) programme is offered by full research. However, students without sufficient research skills and knowledge are required to enrol and pass the following two (2) pre-requisite courses with at least a B grade during the first two (2) semesters of their enrolment (i.e. before they continue with their research):

  1.  SZRZ6014 Research Methodology
  2.  SCLE6014 Academic Writing and/or
  3.  Any other course as determined by the supervisor or Academic Committee.


To complete the PhD. programme, students are required to:

  1.  Present and defend the proposed research/thesis to a committee.
  2.  Present progress reports of research work at colloquiums arranged by the Graduate School or College;
  3.  Produce at least one (1) article, accepted/published for publication in a Scopus Indexed Journal.

    i) The article is produce individually or can be co-authored only with and consented by the supervisor(s).

    ii) The article accepted or published must be based on the PhD candidate’s research topic.

    iii) The article must be accepted or published during the candidacy.

    iv) The article must be accepted or published before a viva-voce session.

    **Note: Students who registered after 2018 must produce at least ONE (1) article accepted/published for publication in a Scopus Indexed Journal.
     

  4. Attend a viva voce session to defend the thesis; and 
  5. Submit a written thesis.
