CITE ZONE SUPPORTS THE POTENTIALS OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE CREATIVE INDUSTRY

UUM ONLINE: Creative Industry Talent Empowerment Zone 2016 (Cite Zone 2016) aims to bring the world’s attention to the creative abilities of our younger generation particularly in the creative field.

Delivering the speech of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Commission (KKMM); Datuk Kamil Othman the Director-General of Malaysia National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) said, the establishment of Cite ZONE was in line with the National Creative Industry Policy agenda which was initiated in 2010.

He added that the government had allocated a total of MYR200 million under the 10th. Malaysia Plan (RMK-10) to finance activities related to the creative industry such as the production of film and drama, animation and the development of local content.

"The ministry saw the need to intensify the efforts not only locally but also at the international level.

"The organisation of CITE Zone programme will bring the world’s attention to the creative abilities of our young talents in the creative industry,” he said at the launching ceremony of CITE Zone 2016 at Tan Sri Othman Hall, UUM.

CITE Zone commenced on 9 April and it saw the involvement of 120 students from public and private universities, polytechnics as well as community colleges. The four-day programme offers the opportunity to the younger generation to discover and share information, ideas, experiences and expertise related to the creative industry.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali, who represented UUM Vice-Chancellor said, the programme is a joint effort between the School of Multimedia Technology and Communication (SMMTC), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and KKMM. The progamme is divided into four main sectors including film, TV drama, animation and music. The trainers and facilitators of the programme include well-known public figures i.e. Aziz M. Osman, Pekin Ibrahim, Habsah Hassan and Cat Farish.

The highlight of this programme is a pitching session by FINAS Pitching Centre which involves the participants of Masterclass workshop. The best participant will receive a special award (Micro Fund) from FINAS.

CITE Zone 2016 was also organised in conjunction with Discover UUM 2016 campaign which indirectly introduce the unique surrounding of UUM campus which emphasises the concepts of Edutourism and Edutainment.

Also present at the launching ceremony were Prof. Dr. Norshuhada Shiratuddin, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUMCAS; Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin, Secretary of Content Development Division, Ministry of Communications and Multimedia; Dr. Norsiah Abdul Hamid, Dean of SMMTC along with officers from UUM and FINAS.
