SMMTC PhD STUDENT RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP TO JOIN THE ASEAN-KOREA EXCHANGE PROGRAMME
UUM ONLINE: Napat Ruangnapakul, a Doctorate (PhD) student of the School of Multimedia Technology and Communication (SMMTC) was among the nine researchers selected to become the recipient of the ASEAN-Korea Exchange Fellowship scholarship grant offered by the ASEAN-ROK Academic Exchange 2016/2017.
The programme provided fellow scholars and graduate students from ASEAN nations as well as Korea with the opportunity to experience and collaborate to conduct research in specific areas in order to create better understanding and solidarity between ASEAN nations and Korea.
Napat first learned about the programme from the UUM Centre for International Affairs & Cooperation (CIAC). She then decided to try out and submit her entry form. The programme was the result of a collaboration between the ASEAN University Network (AUN) and the Korean Association of Southeast Asian Studies (KASEAS).
"I will leave for Korea to conduct my research as soon as I complete the documentation with AUN at the end of August and I expect to complete my studies by May of next year.
"The topic of my research is 'Muslim Friendly: Perspectives of Korean and Malaysian scholars on the improvement of intercultural communication on Korean tourism to Muslim tourists'," she said.
Napat expressed her happiness for being selected to join the programme, she also thanked her PhD supervisors, Assoc. Prof. Dr Norhafezah Yusof and Dr Norsiah Abdul Hamid, the Dean of SMMTC for their invaluable support and input.
Ms. Napat who served as a public relations officer at Maejo University, Chiang Mai, Thailand before pursuing her studies, expressed hopes to become a lecturer at the university where she worked after completing her studies.
